Power Station

NICE was pleased to part sponsor and support the screening of this funny and inspiring movie as part of the ‘Imagine’ festival in ‘The Commons’ on the Ormeau Road.

Two artists in Walthamstow set out to take their street off the grid — sparking a solar-powered energy revolution. Link: 'Power Station' Film Trailer

Inspired by the wave of mutual aid during lockdown, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn set out to transform their street into an energy-generating powerhouse — a prototype for a new way of living, and a catalyst for wider change towards sustainable alternatives.

Directed by the duo, Power Station follows their turbulent journey: from pitching the idea to neighbours and even sleeping on their roof, to raising finance and launching an unlikely bid for a Christmas number one single.

By turns funny and deeply heartwarming, the film paints a vivid portrait of their neighbourhood and stands as a testament to the power of creativity in reshaping what communities believe is possible.

After the screening, there was an online Q&A with filmmaker Dan Edelstyn.  A panel discussion followed in which NICE Chair, Mat Allen participated with local experts exploring the potential for expanding community energy across Northern Ireland.
