We are Northern Ireland's second oldest community-owned renewable energy benefit society, operating Solar Panels on community buildings across Northern Ireland.

We promote renewable energy and energy efficiency services across NI through collaboration with community groups and our co-operative members.

We raise capital through community share offers to develop projects that promote low-carbon and low-cost energy and invest any returns directly back into the local community.

What is community energy?

Energy projects that are owned, controlled and benefit the communities closest to them. Projects can involve a range of different activities, including installing renewable energy generation - such as Solar PV or Wind Turbines - or providing energy efficiency measures such as insulating homes.

Community Energy can help communities to tackle fuel poverty, support vulnerable communities to pay their energy bills, make homes more sustainable and climate-friendly, and empower communities by developing skills, jobs and participation in the energy system.

We do community energy because...

  • Energy savings from our solar panels go directly to the community organisations, allowing them to do more of what they are good at.
  • By collaborating with shareholders, we can invest in larger scale renewable energy projects that have higher returns and greater carbon emissions savings than small scale renewable energy such as domestic solar panels.
  • We can help to raise public awareness and engagement in the need for renewable energy, and the climate emergency in Northern Ireland.
  • We can help NI catch up with the rest of the UK and Republic of Ireland in the provision of low carbon electricity.
